Veteran and military discount

Here’s a comprehensive list of military veteran discounts.  As military veterans ourselves, we’ve been very grateful to the many businesses that offer veteran discounts throughout the year.  Most of these require some type of proof of your veteran’s status …. and many states will actually put your status on your drivers license (just ask).  Please share this so all veterans can benefit.

A few things you can do now:

  1. Sign up for ID.me:  ID.me pre-verifies you for many online military / veteran discounts.
  2. Get “Veteran” on your drivers license:  many states will print “veteran” on your license so you can easily use that as proof of veteran status.  Ask your DMV.

Here’s a list of the veteran discounts we’ve found (make sure to have your proof of veteran’s status / veteran ID with you) — please let us know if we’re missing any.  (some of the discounts say “varies by location” this is typically because the stores are franchised, so it depends on the franchisee and/or local manager) :

Car / Truck Discounts

  • Chrysler:  A variety of bonus cash programs for active duty and retirees. Honorably discharged veterans are also eligible within six months of discharge.  Click veteran discount link for more details.
  • Ford: Discount varies.  See the Ford veteran discount link for more details.
  • GM: Discount varies. See the GM veteran discount program.
  • Hyundai: All active duty, Reservist/National Guard, veteran and retired military personnel will receive an additional $500 off.  See the Hyundai veteran discount program
  • Kia: offers a Military Specialty Incentive Program (up to $400 incentive depending on location)
  • Nissan: Military personnel qualify for Nissan’s veteran discount program.
  • Toyota: Discount varies for active duty and veterans.

Banks and Credit Cards

  • American Express: AMEX waives ALL fees for active duty military, including the annual fees on all of their cards (and the Amex Platinum!). To get this you have to contact Amex for the discount so they can verify.  This is only Active Duty.
  • Chase Bank: Get a free Chase Premier Plus Checking Account (Normally $25 a month) which includes a fee free safety deposit box, ATM Fees waived (some), and other stuff.  See more details at the Chase bank veteran discount .
  • U.S. Bank: US Bank gives all active duty & veterans free Premiere checking & savings with no fees.  See the US Bank veteran discount here.

  • Home Depot:  10% off everything.  Just show your ID at checkout.

  • Many hotels offer military or veteran discounts.  Call in advance to ask if they offer one.  if they do, its typically 10%-15% off.
  • Great Wolf Lodge:  up to 30%.  See their veteran discount details.

  • Geico:  Discounts of up to 15% off to veterans.
  • USAA:  this company only offers insurance to military and veterans (and their dependents)
  • Always shop around as any discounts still may not be as good as other company non-discounted rate

Discounts on online retailers can be extensive.  You often times can use both coupons and a veteran’s discount.  Also, you may be able to use discount / rebate services like ebates.com for additional % off.  What we do:  we always shop with ebates.
